livejournal

I have been blogging at livejournal, and may continue to do so.

I'm not entirely convinced that it pings, but the pinging on this site has been questionable to say the least.

Anyway you can read my much more prolific blogging here

You will notice I now have picture power. Wooo! Get me.

Brick Lane Festival

I dragged myself down to the Brick Lane festival yesterday afternoon. I make it soudn like a hard ship, I did actually want to go.

A bunch of interesting foods, and a few reasonable bands on offer, seemed enough to tempt me.

I was aiming to get down there for about midday, but had the most lazy Sunday; morning possibly on record. By the time I got to my friends flat at 3 (Yes, that is how lazy my morning had been) I discovered I needn't have been concerned, as th poeple I were planning to go with were still in a state of limited activity. It's like we had to travel far, their flat is on Brick Lane, pretty much a stones throw from the festival's heart. The shop below even managed to amass a quantity of dancing fools, by merely turning up the stereo of their repetative beats.

Anyway back to the flat, instead of rushing to leave and get to the excitement, we had to wait for Phoebe, who was trying to find some beetroot somewhere.

eventually she returned beetroot in hand, and...

No, we didn't quite leave yet, we had to make dinner first.
Actually dinner was quite good. Boiled beetroot with salt and marg (really good, I know it sounds rubbish), boiled potatoes, potato salad (homemade of course) cheese with cumin in it, salami and slalad, along with some sort of Swedish marinated Herring, that you serve with a kind of creme fraishe. It was really tasty, but the herring had a sort of jelly like texture, which put me off a little, but it tasted so good that I got over that quite quickly.

Anyway, eventually we did manage to leave the flat trundled on down to 93feet east, wher we saw a generic white rap band who although terriflyingly predictable and awful lyrics did manage to be entertaining. The fact that they had a real brass section, added to the interset as well.

I was a little disappointed not to have caught Pete Doherty or The Paddingtons, and a Ukele band that sounded interesting, but overall a fun little evening.

Pop Crotch.

All red-blooded men must watch the greatest pop video of all time. Also features Steve Winwoods "Valerie" to boot.

The bloke does appear to be a bit of a Johnny Vaughan-a-like. Watch his face after the first crotch thrust.

Poster Child.

So, it turns out I was completely wrong about Dodgeball. A truly average movie, if ever there was one. Sure, I’ll admit I chuckled a couple of times. That hardly warrants the “funniest movie of the year” plaque that many have nailed to this film.

It did remind me of an issue that has been bugging me for quite some time though.

Movie Posters.

How is it, that the people who make or design these posters, find it incredibly difficult to put the name of the actor above the correct actor.

Point in case with Dodgeball. Top left: the words Vince Vaughn, below stands clear as the day Ben Stiller. A little further along the poster we see the words Ben, almost immediately followed by Stiller. Who’s that with the awkward smile underneath, well shit me sideways it’s Vince Vaughn.

Why? And I am fairly sure this painfully common. Test it out yourself, if you happen to see some movie posters.

Sure there’s probably some crappy billing reason for this. Me, I just call it “When design goes BAD!”

Cheap Choosday Checkout

Popped down to the ever-delightful Odeon (would you like a stabbing with your popcorn sir?) last night hoping to take advantage of the cheap Tuesday offer they have. Most cinemas have a cheap day, usually a Monday, you get to pay the price that's normally only available before 5pm. It's a good 2 to 3 quid cheaper.

Just about to purchase my ticket, when I notice something amiss about the price. It appears to be no cheaper than normal.

Turns out they have discontinued the cheap Tuesday offer, I was offered the Orange half price offer.

3 things to bear in mind on this front.
Number 1: It wasn't Wednesday, I'm fairly sure the Orange offer is called Orange Wednesday, for the simple reason that it applies to Wednesdays

Number 2: The offer is for 2 tickets for the price of 1. Sad though it may be, I was on my own. I thought the ticket person may have realised that when I asked for one ticket.

Number 3: I'm not on bloody Orange. So It's no fucking use to me anyway.

The Bear Necessaties

Don't worry the bear was fine.

But did anyone test the outcome of a falling bear landing on a trampoline, before they did this. I think not.

The Meatrix

Very amusing and a little bit disturbing animation http://www.themeatrix.com that follows up with a link to non-factory farms. Only US and Canada on the link unfortunately.
